Haiku Advent Calendar
(1)
A small penguin lives
Down in the antarctic snow
Standing in silence
(2)
A storm arises
Building, and with growing rage
What devilish beast
(3)
The penguin retreats
Back into his icy home
A tiny igloo
(4)
There he sits inside
Growing bored and frustrated
His mind wandering
(5)
A fond memory
Of a weekend at Grandma's
One of her stories
(6)
A man dressed in red
Bringing you presents and cheer
Such beautiful thought
(7)
That would be a dream
Meeting this fairy-tale man
Chatting and laughing
(8)
But where does he live?
Surely someone has to know
The postman maybe?
(9)
Captivated by
This ridiculous idea
The penguin gets up
(10)
He opens the door
And faces the raging storm
Starting his journey
(11)
He stays on his path
Eyes locked on the horizon
A clear goal in mind
(12)
Wind punching his face
And eating up his footprints
But he marches on
(13)
The eye of the storm
Snowflakes gently gliding down
Temporary peace
(14)
But then more chaos
And the penguin still marching
Forever, it seems
(15)
Finally he spots
His journey's destination
The postman's office
(16)
After the question
Regarding Grandma's story
The postman says this:
(17)
You mean Santa Claus
He used to live around here
But not anymore
(18)
His work did disturb
Our peaceful citizens
So they chased him off
(19)
He was so bitter
And settled down some place north
He never came back
(20)
With this new knowledge
The penguin's dejection grows
He nods, turns and leaves
(21)
Arriving at home
He is back where he started
Sighing and groaning
(22)
His view starts to blur
As he's staring at the wall
Devoid of all thought
(23)
But then an idea
Sending him to the kitchen
Reemerging with:
(24)
A christmas cookie
As a present to himself
He sheepishly smiles
