The World Stands Naked in the Dark

[89]

Every night I sit by my window
And watch the world undress.
Her coat of sunshine and civility
Stored neatly in the closet
She reveals absurdist birth marks –
Nocturnal abnormalities
That might rattle the eyes of the sleeping.
But I am wide awake
And, having studied her anatomy for a while now,
I revel in the disarray.
The world stands naked in the dark
And I hum her lonesome lullaby.
